چکیده

Dysphagia is a complication that often occurs and triggers the occurrence of aspiration pneumonia death from stroke. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) muscle strengthening therapy sensorimotor recovery with can improve swallowing function. This study aims to find evidence effectiveness NMES on function in stroke patients dysphagia. The method used this research systematic review through online databases, namely: PubMed, ProQuest, Sciencedirect, Wiley Online Library, articles full text criteria, using Indonesian or English, publications last 5 years, quasi-experimental design randomized controlled trials. Search keywords "stroke", "cerebrovascular accident", "dysphagia", "neuromuscular stimulation", "swallowing function", "deglutitions function" combined boolean operator AND OR. search results found 10 match inclusion criteria. From articles, there was 1 article 9 trial articles. showed could be an optional intervention after Based reviews, effective improving dysphagia; more high-quality needed determine proper procedure other treatments therapy.

Changes in Hyolaryngeal Movement and Swallowing Function After Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation in Patients With Dysphagia

OBJECTIVE To investigate immediate changes in hyolaryngeal movement and swallowing function after a cycle of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) on both submental and throat regions and submental placement alone in patients with dysphagia. METHODS Fifteen patients with dysphagia were recruited. First, videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) was performed before NMES. All patients th...

The Effect of Early Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation Therapy in Acute/Subacute Ischemic Stroke Patients With Dysphagia

OBJECTIVE To compare the outcome of an early application of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) combined with traditional dysphagia therapy (TDT) versus traditional dysphagia therapy only in acute/subacute ischemic stroke patients with moderate to severe dysphagia by videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS). METHODS Fifty-seven dysphagic stroke patients were enrolled in a VFSS within...

Effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation on lip strength and closure function in patients with dysphagia after stroke

[Purpose] This study aimed to investigate the effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) on lip strength and closure function of patients with dysphagia after stroke. [Subjects and Methods] Eight patients with dysphagia were recruited. NMES was applied to the orbicularis oris muscle. All the participants received NMES for 30 min/d, 5 d/wk, for 4 weeks. Lip strength was measured using...
